This article has been about one of the most important books in Hindu culture, the Vedas. The Vedas are the most ancient texts in Indian religions and were written in Sanskrit. These texts contain information about everything including human life, dharma (religious practices), history, astronomy, and various other sciences. The book Nuthana Padya Sangrahaya is an illustrated book with a large portion of text on each page which is used along with a dictionary at the end of the book which helps readers to study more about topics they are interested in or want answers for.

When I first opened this book, I had no idea what to expect. The cover has a picture of a man holding a monkey, and there were gold coins and jewels scattered amongst the text. It's not the typical book that you'd expect to see in your local library (although, these days they're pretty much all digital and technology based).

A few pages in I was completely lost and confused. There were lots of colons everywhere, which meant that there was more text after each sentence. To make matters worse, the text was all written backwards; meaning you read it from top to bottom (just like in Greek). As I read faster to get to the end of the page, I was barely able to read anything. I soon realized that unless I went back and did the work myself, that there was no way I would be able to understand what was written.

After taking a break and seeing what the book had to offer (not much) and finding out how long it took mehours to read, it made me realize why this book is used with a dictionary at the end. Without it, it would be impossible for me to read without my eyes crossing over sentences and paragraphs at many points. “It is the practice of the Vedas to write the text first and then to formulate questions through rational discussion. Then, to put those answers into a visual form, so that it can be easily remembered and studied by a yogi who does not have a good memory.” As I continued reading, I noticed that there were many illustrations in this book as well as other books from the same author. It seems as though it was for those who knew English or were interested in studying what they were reading about. The illustrations were very detailed and gave insight as to what the text said. The vocabulary of this book is very difficult to understand for someone who has no prior knowledge of the Sanskrit or Hindu culture. Even with some background information, I was still left confused. The way the author writes his words is very complicated and hard to understand even if you know some Sanskrit (even though you definitely need more than “some”).

I would not recommend this book for young adults or children who are interested in learning about Hindu culture because it could be a real struggle unless they have a background in the language or Hindu culture. While people with a background in these areas may find it interesting to study in their spare time, it would be a nightmare.
